Omaha, NE – The Greater Omaha Chamber participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony of the Nebraska Resource Center at Offutt Air Force Base today. This center – the first of its kind in the nation – will offer, “military, veteran, and dependent support services in a public-facing storefront within a base exchange.” In addition, the Center will be a resource for newly arrived servicemembers and their families. Assistance of this kind include everything from spousal employment, childcare, to information about Omaha amenities.

“At the Greater Omaha Chamber, it is one of our top priorities to continually enhance one of the best military installations in the country – as well as ensuring our men and women who serve our country are cared for when their mission is completed,” said Heath Mello, President and CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber.

“With the ribbon being cut for the Nebraska Resource Center, we are also investing in a skilled worker pipeline for Greater Omaha for years to come. Our community will continue to work aggressively to ensure that Offutt Air Force Base gets what they need to operate at the highest level possible and keep the men and women who served here in the Omaha area,” said Mello.

In the past 12 months, over 800 service members have transitioned to civilian life from Offutt Air Force Base. The Nebraska Resource Center will give servicemembers like these a place for support in this transition. The Greater Omaha Chamber was able to support this creation of the Nebraska Resource Center by coordinating resources and funding, advocacy, and connecting key partners to the project such as the Offutt Advisory Council and the United Way of the Midlands.

“At Offutt, we are committed to providing our service members and their families with the support they need both during and after their military careers,” said Col. Mark Howard, commander of the 55th Wing at Offutt AFB.

“The Nebraska Resource Center is a testament to this dedication, offering valuable resources right here on base to ensure our airmen, veterans, and their families have access to the benefits they’ve earned and the opportunity to continue contributing to Nebraska’s community. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to their success, both in uniform and beyond.”
